A Reply from the "Moral Relativism" Article!

replyDear Professor Pesta,

I was fascinated by your article in the New American: Moral Relativism.  Perhaps my account might be helpful.  I’m 84 and went to private schools (in lady’s houses) until 4th grade.  My brother and I then went to a one room schoolhouse (with 2 backhouses!) until 6th grade for me and 7th for him.  In those days bad behavior was unacceptable.  So we were attentive students, also it preceded John Dewey, so every kid read, no matter what their background!

When I went into 7th grade I went to the High School building (the big time!).  This is a small town and was not centralized at that time – so discipline and respect was the law!  And everyone could read! Evolution and de-education had not reared their ugly heads, so life was of the best.  When I was around 16 Evolution began its slithery, slimey(sp. slimy) creep – and I was fascinated.  I pursued it through archeology, paleintology(sp. paleontology), and anthropology while I graduated from High School; then went on to Parsons School of Design (Interior Design) right after WWII for 3 yrs. (as an aside, we never saw men between the ages of 18 – 50 during FDR’s war--!)

As I pursued Evolution, I kept coming up against a wall: Something was wrong -- there was no reason to live, for Evolution taught: There was no Creator, Christ was a good man; there were no moral absolutes; no consequences for wrong doing; no afterlife; no reason for life.  It was suicidal!  Why bother?!

In 1961 I got married (a good one, 33 years!) but doubts grew; THEN God’s timing is exquisite!  He put a book in front of me – I’ve forgotten what it was, but WOW!  I exploded out of the muck hole of Evolution and have been on the warpath ever since.

To get to the point (finally!) two generations have been indoctrinated with Evolution – and now Socialism – in the schools.  God was kicked out and today Evolution, under the guise of science, is the only religion allowed in public schools.  Therefore kids have none of God’s protection, none of Christ’s example, there is no right or wrong, and no reason for living, the most suicidal hoax ever put on mankind, and America is saturated with it!

Wonderful article and thank you for writing it.  And God bless you!!

Sincerely,

Sally Gifford O’Brien
